What’s Going On Inside? 8.23.17
What matters is not your outer appearance—the styling of your hair, the jewelry you wear, the cut of your clothes—but your inner disposition. Cultivate inner beauty, the gentle, gracious kind that God delights in.
1 Peter 3:3-4
One of my favorite things to do on Instagram and Pinterest is to look up different outfit and styling ideas. I can sit on my phone and browse blogger styles for hours, catching up on the most up to date trends and ways to update my closet. Especially when I have an event coming up, I always make sure days in advance that I have the perfect outfit picked out.
After studying this verse, the Lord made it clear to me — I am more concerned about my outer appearance than what is happening on the inside. Have I ever spent hours “cultivating inner beauty”? Ummm …. No. But I sure have spent hours on Pinterest!
To cultivate is to refine, work on, nurture and grow. How can we cultivate inner beauty daily that glorifies the Father? By spending time in the Word, surrounding ourselves with godly women and being more picky about what we watch/listen to are just a few ways we can grow our inner beauty.
As we daily nurture inner beauty, the Lord will naturally grow the gentle, gracious woman we all were created to be. Someone who is full of peace, calm no matter the circumstance and overflowing with His love.
How can you cultivate inner beauty today? For me personally, every time I want to get on Instagram today — I am going to let that remind me to read a quick scripture or devotion instead of scrolling through the latest IG feed.
Praying that today you work on your inner beauty as God creates deep within you the woman you specifically were created to be.
