Facing Rejection 2.10.17

Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.” 1 Timothy 1:15-16

I am so thankful for my husband, Ben,  and how easy love has been since he came into my life. Looking back, however, the journey to that point was not always so sweet. I had my fair share of bumps and bruises along the way, and a case of self-imposed devastation that many of you may have experienced… rejection.

For me, it was a short summer fling. You know the type: unexpected, exciting, and seemingly full of potential. But then the phone calls start getting shorter… then less often… then non-existent. By the time I made one last effort to rekindle a spark, I got hit with the text message no woman wants to ever receive. And it was full on rejection.

I had been in relationships that ended with sore feelings before but it almost hurt more losing the grasp on a connection before it had even began. It felt as if he had gotten just enough of a glimpse to know that he didn’t want me.

It can cause immense pain when someone sees the best you have to offer and still rejects you. However, God sees the grossest, ugliest, parts and still longs for your heart. The crazy part is that we often continue to reject HIM. Especially, in times when we may be feeling unloved or wondering why we aren’t getting our way, we have to recognize God’s great love and greater plan. While I was feeling sorry for myself and trying to force relationships that weren’t meant to be, my husband was 16 months and 600 miles away waiting patiently. God already had a plan for us that I couldn’t see.

If you are in a place where rejection is holding you back, I hope you will find acceptance in Christ’s unending love. Even at our worst, he will never turn his back on us.
