Perspective 4.5.17

“Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.” Colossians 3:2

I was recently slapped in the face with my earthly perspective. A friend asked if I would donate some specific clothes to a family in need. This is something that I would generally do without even thinking, but I really struggled with this request for one reason – greed. I had just done some spring cleaning in my closet and was planning on selling these clothes to get some other things that I “need”.

Ironically, less than 30 minutes before I got my friend’s text, my husband and I had been talking about living our lives with open hands and hearts for those in need. We realize that everything we have is a gift from God, and he has stewarded us to share these blessings with others.

After having this internal battle and coming up with every excuse to not give the clothes, I realized my selfishness and earthly perspective. I have more than enough and know that God is firmly pointing me in the direction of generosity.

Have you ever struggled with greed or selfishness?  What is your strategy for giving?
