You Are My Fortress 3.29.17
“But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.” Psalm 59:16
For the past month or so, I’ve been focusing my scripture reading and memory on the Psalms. I found myself rushing through life checking tasks off my list and filling my days with really good things – work, friends, family, bible studies, exercise, etc. The problem was (and still is some days) I had no margin in my life, no time to reflect on God’s goodness and rest in His grace and mercy. I still spent time with Him (most days) but it was hurried like everything else in my life.
So, I’ve been trying to slow down, prune my days, and study the poetic passion of the Psalms. I am enjoying the fact that they don’t tell a chronological story but are songs and prayers to our Creator spoken thousands of years ago. Psalms isn’t about head knowledge but heart change.
If you find yourself without any margin in your days, I encourage you to find a few things (and they probably are good things) to let go. Allow God to move in your heart, and give Him the time and space to do it.
