Legacy 11.24.16

“But gather and heap up and store for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust nor worm consume and destroy; and where thieves do not break through and steal…” Matthew 6: 20-21

Legacy:

noun 1. anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor or predecessor (dictionary.com)

I am not yet a mom, but I hope to be one day, God willing. Quite a few of our sweet friends have had babies or are expecting, and watching this phase of their lives has really put the idea of legacy on my heart. I have realized that throughout our lives we generally are (or hope to be) in a season of growth – whether it be a growing career, family, or simply knowledge. We are often striving to get something that will give our lives meaning when we are gone. We want something to show for the blood, sweat, and tears… and joy and experiences we have in this life.

The world teaches us to build a self-worshiping empire to define our life and pass down to our children. Yet, the Word teaches the opposite. It says to gather treasures in Heaven that will live on eternally. I don’t think these are tangible treasures like cars and houses. I think they are fruits of our spirit. I want to pass these fruits on to the next generation. How much further will joy, peace, and kindness take them than a fancy car that will stop working and be worth nothing? Leave a legacy of love today.

We wish you the happiest Thanksgiving filled with laughter and love.
