Too Busy For Him? 4.27.17

“Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.” Daniel 6:10

This week has been absolutely crazy. Amidst days in the office, volunteering, celebrating birthdays, blogging, and LOTS and LOTS of photo editing, I have had some super late nights and not much time to just unwind. Life is busy. And when life is busy, my quiet time suffers.

That’s probably one of the most ironic parts about writing for The Well. Because if I’m being totally honest, I’m not always very good at putting God first. In fact, there are often times that sitting down to write a devotional is the only time I carve out in my day to be intentional with Him. So I may be giving you advice on how to honor God with your life, but I am hardly even modeling it in my own. It feels very hypocritical. And my only excuse is a really lame one: I’m just so busy.

If you look to the Bible, you will see a whole list of men and women that led lives full of purpose and duty. Daniel, for instance, was a very busy man. He held a high government position in the ancient kingdom of Babylon, and I can only assume that he too had a full schedule. However, he had developed the habit of spending time with God — praying three times a day, praising God, and thanking Him. This routine helped him develop a strong faith that did not waver when he faced persecution.

I desperately need that kind of routine in my life. That way, when things get busy, I’m not left vulnerable to the enemy. Is this something you want to strive to work towards with me? Let us rise in the morning and invite Him into our day, so that we may praise Him and ask Him for His help throughout the day. Let us also end each night with time set aside to reflect on His faithfulness.

God desires a relationship with us. As we spend time with Him in prayer and in the Word, we grow in our relationship and learn to become more and more like Him. And when we finally live daily with God as a priority, we will not fail.
