Jesus, Remember Me 3.1.17
“Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
Luke 23:42
Today is Ash Wednesday, the start of a 40 day fast leading up to Easter. Growing up, I thought this was only observed by Catholics and didn’t start participating until college. The 40 day fast (excluding Sundays) mirrors the 40 days Jesus fasted in the desert before beginning his ministry and allows us to prepare our heart for the celebration of Easter and life.
The words in this verse were spoken by one of the criminals crucified on a cross next to Jesus. Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Our Savior, in the hardest and most excruciating moment of his life, forgave the sins of a man as he was also dying. He had nothing left to offer on earth, yet he realized his need of a savior.
Thank you, Jesus, for your mercy and grace. Thank you for your sacrifice, and may we be ever willing to sacrifice our temporal pleasure for you.
