Feeling Powerless 3.27.17
“He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might, He increases power.” Isaiah 40:29
The sudden change in weather as of Friday has simultaneously symbolized the storm that comes with the death of a dear friend. Like any storm, it’s impact is one of overwhelming devastation. And the chaos of emotions from its wake leaves only the feeling of powerlessness. Powerlessness in relinquished control. Helplessness in having the right words to say. And vulnerability in the face of despair.
Personal tragedies have the tendency to rip our reality apart, leaving us feeling powerless and in the dark. It is times like these that we can only turn to the scriptures for guidance and lean on our hope in Christ to guide us through. “He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength” (Isa. 40:29).
At our lowest point, drained of emotional resources, we can place our hope in the Lord and find our strength in Him. He promises us that, for each new day, “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint” (v.31). In contrast to the strength that youth and health provide, faith can push us to persevere long after others have given up on the race of life. His promise of protection and care through life’s threats and troubles is our sole source of healing.
“Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you. Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
God is our spiritual power source in every storm of life. To all of Betsy’s friends and family — clasp tightly to that promise.
