Of Whom I am Chief 10.20.17
“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.”
1 Timothy 1:15 KJV
Have you ever felt like you were living a more sinful life than you expected to live – negative thoughts, hateful words, questionable actions. I think we can all look at a time in our lives, maybe even today, when we didn’t feel like we were living up to our own expectations. Thank God for his grace! Thank God for sending his son into the world for sinners like you and me. This verse was written by Paul, the author of at least 13 books of the New Testament. He named himself “Chief of Sinners”. He obviously has not met me.
Now he isn’t saying, I am Chief of Sinners and will go on living in my sinful ways. Jesus himself said,
“If you love me, keep my commands”.
John 14:15 NIV
So we are to follow Jesus and keep His commands, but when we mess up (which we will), we are also to accept His grace and freely give it to others.
Today, I hope this verse gives you hope and encourages you in His grace and love.
