The Jolly Saint 12.15.17
“I love those who love me; And those who diligently seek me will find me.” Proverbs 8:17
The red coat. The jolly demeanor. The sack full of gifts. These and many other attributes associated with Santa Claus have been sung about and depicted in Christmas stories for generations. Several of these characteristics are even passed down based on historical fact. Although tales of his servant’s heart and red bishop’s coat seem to have remained intact, the notion of him being an ancient man of God is basically unheard of today. Yet that was EXACTLY who Saint Nicholas was. Isn’t it ironic that a Saint who would have always averted attention away from himself to point toward Jesus now stands in His place during Christmastime?
Our society is constantly trying to subdue Christ during Christmas. But at its very core, there is no denying His presence in all of it. According to Acts 17:27, we are called to be a people that “should seek God… for He is actually not far from each one of us.” I love that we can always find Christ, even in the small details of the season. And I hope that we are all continually pointing toward Jesus in every facet of Christmas, just as the real St. Nick would have done.
