“You are the light of the world. A town build on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14

The darkness in our world is obvious. It seems to be getting darker every day. I love the simplicity of this verse with such a strong command. Jesus spoke these words to his followers – “you are the light of the world”. If you are a Jesus follower, you are the light. Following him is the only qualification. We are to be the light to all of the world not specific regions or subsets of people.

I feel like every time I look at my phone, I have a news update of another tragedy in the world – a shooting, bombing, terrorism, torture. It doesn’t take much to find the darkness. This means that it as important now as it has ever been to shine the hope of Jesus to our fallen world.
