Nearsighted Future

Nearsighted

I have perfect eyesight so I personally don’t know what being nearsighted feels like. I assume you can see things close but when you try to see things far away, it’s blurry. My future is currently nearsighted. I can clearly see today but when I try to see down the road, even if I squint with everything I have, it is all blurry.

This refining, patience growing process ain’t easy. Anyone with me? As we navigate through this season of life, let’s be intentional to learn as much as we can. I feel like when we don’t learn from life’s tests, they come around again.

Here are a few things I am learning through this unknown, blurry yet blessing-filled season of life.

  1. Don’t wish things were different.
Wishing leads to bitterness. When bitterness grows and festers, it turns even the greatest blessing into a burden. Look at your situation dead in the face and commit to making this hard time a growing time in your life. Someone doesn’t become better during easy times, it’s the hard times that make you strong.
  2. Look at the goodness in your life.
For example, my husband and I are spending lots and lots of time together. Like sun up, sun down. When will we ever get this time again? I am trying my hardest to soak up the precious time with the sweetest man I know. In a few years, we will look back at this time and miss it.
  3. Enjoy today.
The friendships you have, the place you live and your daily life; in a few years that could be all different. Even though life is blurry for me, I am working on being intentional with my time and thoughts. Really investing time and love into the different people God has put in my life. Believe me, it can all change in an instant.

Who knows, my husband could get a call tomorrow and by next week I could be living in Seattle. I have to enjoy this time and change my focus from what we don’t have to what we do have. Don’t get me wrong, these practices are a daily commitment. Keep pushing, they have the power to fight off depression and self-pity. Give it a try, what do you have to lose?
